Caring for your pieces
Everything here is built to last decades. Most of what shortens that is avoidable.
Bouclé and velvet upholstery
- Vacuum weekly on low suction with an upholstery head.
- Blot spills immediately with a dry white cloth. Never rub bouclé — it pills permanently.
- Brush velvet in one direction with a soft clothes brush to keep the pile even.
- Rotate and plump seat cushions monthly so the filling wears evenly.
- Professional dry clean only. Water marks velvet and flattens bouclé.
- Keep upholstery out of direct sun. Deep colours fade faster than pale ones.
Natural marble
- Re-seal once a year with a stone-specific sealant.
- Wipe spills promptly — citrus, wine, coffee and oil stain even sealed marble.
- Always use coasters and trivets. Never put a hot pan directly on the stone.
- Clean with a pH-neutral cleaner or plain water. Never use vinegar, lemon or a general bathroom spray.
Alabaster
Dust with a dry cloth only. Alabaster is porous and marks permanently with liquid — including plain water. Never use a cleaning spray on it.
Brass finishes
A dry microfibre cloth is all that is needed. Avoid abrasive creams and metal polishes — the finish is a PVD coating, not solid brass, and polishing will cut through it.
Carpets
- Vacuum without a beater bar. A rotating brush frays a vintage-wash finish.
- Use an anti-slip underlay on marble or polished floors — it also reduces wear.
- Rotate 180° once a year so sun exposure evens out.
- Professional cleaning every 12–18 months.
- Blot spills with a white cloth and cold water. Never use hot water or a household stain remover.
